“Home”…the word conjures up such emotions. There is something about the feeling when you walk through the door of your home. It may be a third-floor walkup or the iconic house with a yard and white picket fence. It doesn’t matter. Home is the place where we can be who we truly are and be understood and accepted. It is sacred ground.
Our body is the home of the Holy Spirit. We were created with an inmost being where the Spirit may abide. The apostle Paul said, “I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being…” Ephesians 3:16. For the Spirit to do this, we must allow Him to reside as the Homeowner and move freely throughout every aspect of our inner life.
As we think about this day in our Christian calendar when Jesus cleared the temple courts of ungodly activity, let’s make this remembrance personal. This temple was God’s house. It needed to be swept clean for His Heavenly Father to dwell. You are God’s house, and if there is anything unpleasing to the Lord, allow Him to clean every aspect of your inner life for His dwelling.
Today, let your breath prayer be:
Inhale: Lord, my heart is your home,
Exhale: Make me clean within.
