Battling a scarcity mindset

We all carry baggage that shapes the way we respond to loaded topics such as finance. However, the baggage we have carried need not be the lens we interpret situations by. God allows our minds to be renewed and our perspectives to shift. One of the common wrestles and loaded topics I’ve come across repeatedly is the tension between generosity and having enough/taking care of our own. The reality is, this is a struggle between a cultural mindset of scarcity and the Kingdom mindset of generosity.

Somewhere along the way, we’ve been led to believe that generosity comes at too great a cost - that if we give, we simply won’t have enough, won’t be able to provide, and we will lose out. We start to see another’s needs as a threat to our own, gripping tightly to what we have out of fear, anxiety, or worry. With clenched fists, we resist faith, trust and God’s provision. We’re told this mindset will achieve and fulfil our needs, yet we’re left exhausted, tense and stressed out.

Fortunately for you and I, that’s not God’s plan and it sure isn’t Kingdom way. His Kingdom operates differently. An open hand not only frees our internal world, but also enables us to give God his job back. Allows God to provide, love on us, care for us far beyond our imagination. We are open to both give and receive.

"You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us, your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God." (2 Corinthians 9:11)

Generosity enriches our souls, releases us from the bondage that can be a scarcity mindset and enables us to live freely. I want that! I’m sure you do too! The good news is we can have that! I pray today, your perspective shifts, from the fear of losing out, to the assurance that God’s got you. That’s where we find the space to inhale, and exhale - release the tension and fear that has marked this area. God’s got you and it’s from this space we find it easy to give freely.
