DAY 3 OF 3

The God of the Master Plan

Have you ever read something that leaves you feeling that there is more to it than what meets the eye? In verse 5 of Psalm 8, we find that kind of verse. Is King David speaking about humans in general, or is he talking about a Human in particular? It wouldn’t be far-fetched to say this verse is a Messianic reference to Jesus.

In a demonstration of His great love for us, our Lord Jesus Christ left the heavens. He limited Himself voluntarily as a human and became a little lower than the angels. Then, once He died and rose again, He was crowned with glory and honor.

Through Christ, God restores within us the visible manifestation of His character. Christ set us free from sin and everything that hinders us. He made it possible for us to be in a relationship with God so that we can now express God’s glory to His creation and fulfill His mandate.

We still can choose to accept or reject Jesus’ work on our behalf. Those who believe in His death on the cross and in His resurrection are redeemed from sin and reunited with God. Through His sacrifice, Christ gives significance to the insignificant.

In the upper room, in His last address to His disciples, Christ told us to love one another. Notice that He didn't command us to love the world. When we care for His creation and one another, we show His character and glory to the world.

God’s purpose for you and me has never changed. We are to be His image bearers and sovereigns over the earth under His authority. He has sent us to represent Him before our friends, neighbors, workmates, church, and community. We can manifest His glory and bear witness to his name.

How well am I doing in fulfilling my purpose?

David concludes this psalm with the same phrase He started it: “O, LORD, our Lord, how excellent is your name on all the earth.”

Father, thank You for the great work of Jesus that has reunited me with You. The purpose You have given me surpasses even my wildest dreams. Let me be a faithful representative of Your love. Show me today where my divine appointments are, how I can love other people and creation, and how I can show how magnificent You are.

About this Plan

[Songs of Praise] Bookends of Majesty

In this final plan in the Songs of Praise Series, join Dr. Mark Rae to look at a psalm that may summarize all the others: Psalm 8. In its nine wonderful verses, we see David extol and praise God in all His glory; God’s plan for creation in His Son; and renewed praise for who God is.
