Journey Through the Gospel of Luke

DAY 11 OF 14

Redemptive History: Behind the Text

Luke is a thorough historian whose detailed account highlights the timing of Christ’s coming. Even his dedication in the Temple seems to be on a divine clock.

Take your imagination to a Temple model to relive that dramatic moment when redemptive history is ushered into its Jubilee year.

Jesus is “recognized” by Anna and Simeon as a baby in these Temple courts.

Now he is coming into the Temple for his entrance into adulthood, what we now call a “bar mitzvah.” In these Temple courts he surprises the religious leaders with his knowledge of God’s Word. He lingers behind in his “Father’s house” where he feels an intense connection.

Later, he’s confronted in these courts, sent off for a mock trial and accused by the religious leaders before Pilate who resides nearby Herod’s palace.

On a lonely hill outside the city and Temple wall, Jesus suffers a criminal's death. On that day, the Temple curtain tears from top to bottom while the world's greatest sacrifice is made. The Savior-Sacrifice cries, "It is finished." The Jubilee year predicted by Daniel has begun.
