Walking in the Power of God's Word

DAY 4 OF 6

Day Four: The Battle Plan

At this stage, we know what the Word is and why it's so vital for us to remain in it. However, as I alluded to yesterday, there's no way that we can stay there. There's no way that we can forget the call on our lives and The Great Commission which clearly tells us:

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." (Matthew 28:19-20)

And then in Hebrews 4:12, we're reminded - "the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword…”

And so if, as we’re instructed in The Great Commission, we’re to "teach" God's powerful living and active Word to others, we're going to need to know it!

In Psalm 119:11, the Psalmist writes:

"I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you."

THIS is the ultimate battle plan. Within the pages of Scripture, we're introduced to the Word (as in the entire canon of Scripture) being referred to as "logos" in Greek, as we've already discussed. However, there is also another word for the Word, which Jesus uses as a part of His battle plan. This word in Greek is ‘rhema’.

Having a rhema word is often described as having a word "in season" for what you're currently facing, as opposed to the entire Bible. The Greek word ‘Rhema’ comes up again, for example in Ephesians 6:17 when Paul is describing the Sword of the Spirit as the Word of God. When we know the Word, we can face any circumstance that might cause us to doubt, be tempted or even to sin - and instead of succumbing, we can powerfully speak God’s Word in the face of our problems.

Those Rhema words, through the Holy Spirit, give us the power to face our battles head-on and negate the need for us to cower away in fear. Through them, we’re reminded of who and we are, what we’ve been called to, and the fact God is with us as we go through it. Tomorrow, we’ll look at an instance where Jesus Himself had to battle in this very way.
