OVERFLOW

DAY 19 OF 21

SERVE WITH PERSEVERANCE

Weariness: 1. extreme tiredness; fatigue. 2. Reluctance to see or experience any more of something.

Being good & doing good are easily understood. But why is it that we can feel like we’re doing good all the time and feel like it’s not changing anything in our life? Probably because we’ve grown weary. “Weary” is a weird word, but in our scripture today it’s a word that perfectly describes how we can run out of gas, or lose our momentum while we’re on the right path and doing the right thing. We get worn out, we lose focus, and we eventually just feel like we’re doing good to no end. But that’s where the scripture is trying to get us to see that there is something beyond our line of sight. Something over the horizon. Something through the trees at the end of the forest. If we just stay the course, there WILL be a reward at the end. So what is the ultimate message of today’s scripture?

“DON’T QUIT”

You may not realize it now, or even see the point in maintaining the good that you’re doing, but here’s the truth: God sees what you’re doing, and He’s proud of you. Keep it up, the reward is worth it!

What are good things that are easy for you to do? What are more difficult things that are good to do that you wish you did more? Why is it hard to do the good but difficult things? Can you imagine every good thing that you’ve done like a farmer sowing a seed in a field, then after that seed grows how it will produce something good?

Today, make a list of the good things you’ve been doing that are meaningful to you. Imagine yourself doing them one by one and each time imagine God telling you “well done or good job.”
