House of Davidনমুনা

YOUR PROVIDER
The very first verse of Psalm 23 says, “The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.” David is acknowledging that his shepherd is also his provider.
Sheep are basically helpless. They need the provision of a shepherd. Isn’t that true of us as well? Even our ability to be a great entrepreneur or shrewd investor or hard worker comes from God.
Scripture leaves no room for doubt. Deuteronomy 8:18 says: “Remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth.” The apostle Paul was a bit more pointed: “What do you have that God hasn’t given you? And if everything you have is from God, why boast as though it were not a gift?” (1 Corinthians 4:7).
Everything you have is a gift from God. Your money. Your family. Your next breath.
One day, unless Jesus comes for us first, we will come to the end of our journey. In that instant between earth and Heaven, between time and eternity, you will remember—with incalculable joy—“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want” (Psalm 23:1). And you will also say, “I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever” (Psalm 23:6).
Make the Lord your shepherd. That’s the very best way to live in this life, and that’s the secret of contentment.
Paul writes in Philippians 4:11–13, “Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.”
Contentment should be the hallmark of the godly person. But make no mistake: Contentment in life does not come from what you have. It comes from who you know. Hebrews 13:5 says, “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’” Now that’s provision.
God my provider, all I have is a gift from You. I pray that I would seek after not earthly things that will pass away but true contentment from You, who will never leave me. Amen.
