His Glory, My Story: A Study of His Glory in Hebrews

DAY 5 OF 8

Day 5: The Declaration of Our Identity

Devotional:
The book of Hebrews declares something extraordinary about our identity: God has brought "many sons to glory" through Jesus Christ. Hebrews 2:10-12 explains that Jesus, the founder of our salvation, suffered on our behalf to bring us into a new relationship with God. Because of this, He is not ashamed to call us His brothers and sisters.

Think about that for a moment—Jesus, the one for whom and by whom all things exist, looks at us and declares, "You are mine." This truth has profound implications. Our identity is no longer shaped by our past, failures, or limitations. Instead, it is rooted in the work of Christ, who sees us as part of His family.

In Romans 8:14-17, we are reminded that we are children of God, co-heirs with Christ. This means that we share in His glory and His inheritance. The love of the Father has rewritten our story, giving us confidence to approach Him as our Abba, our loving Father.

The declaration of our identity reminds us that God sees us differently than we often see ourselves. He calls us beloved, chosen, and worthy. He is not ashamed of us, and His declaration empowers us to live out our true identity as His sons and daughters.

Next Step:
Take a few minutes today to write down the labels or thoughts you’ve allowed to define your identity. Then replace each one with the truth of who you are in Christ, such as "I am His child" or "I am loved." Spend time thanking God for the new identity He has given you.
