Day 38: Witnesses For Jesus

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

—Acts 1:8

In 1991, our team was in Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria, partnering with local college students during a time of spiritual revival following 70 years of communist rule. Each day we performed dramas, preached, and prayed for the sick, reaching hundreds who heard the gospel for the first time.

One evening, as I tried to wrap up our outreach around 5:00 p.m., a Bulgarian university student grabbed my shoulder and asked, “Where are you going?” She looked at me, tears rolling down her face. “Why are you in such a hurry when the people are so hungry for Jesus?”

Even as I share this, my heart is deeply moved. Her words drove me to my knees. “Please forgive me. I will stay,” I responded. That night was one of our most powerful outreaches ever—Muslims found Jesus, sick bodies were healed, and entire families were transformed by the gospel.

This story reminds us that we’re called to be witnesses for Jesus through the Holy Spirit’s power in every situation—whether in dramatic moments like Bulgaria or daily opportunities to share His love. People desperately need the hope found only in Jesus, who proclaimed, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Our campuses are filled with people who need Jesus. Today, let’s ask the Holy Spirit to fill us anew, enabling us to be bold witnesses and proclaim His glory amidst people’s pain and need.

PRAYER POINTS:

• Pray for the Holy Spirit’s power to fill us and our friends, enabling bold proclamation of Jesus on our campuses (Acts 1:8).
• Pray for God’s compassion to move us as we look upon the multitudes, inspiring us to preach, love, and proclaim Jesus (Matthew 9:35-38).
• Pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit, not just on individuals but on entire campuses, just as witnessed in Bulgaria. May revival come to our campuses today (Isaiah 64:1-4).
