Following Jesus in Nursing: A Daily Devotional for Caregiversনমুনা
Take one minute, and breathe in and out slowly. Ask Jesus to make his presence known to you. How do you react when you feel called out, embarrassed, or ashamed?
One of my most shameful moments was failing a nursing class. I didn't flunk because I lacked intelligence or didn't complete assignments. On the contrary, I overzealously pursued the semester project and made it too complicated. When I couldn't articulate the project to my instructor, I failed. I was devastated as my classmates moved on without me. Through tears and prayers, I sought Jesus’ healing touch for my crushed soul.
Over time, I came to understand this failure was part of God's master plan for my life. Failure helped me mature. I learned humility and became more teachable. Repeating the semester allowed me to take extra classes I would not have taken—learning helpful to my career. Most importantly, I learned Jesus cares for me in deep suffering and is with me in the most challenging situations of life. A few years later, I graduated with honors. – Grateful for you, Kathy
Jesus cares deeply about the suffering of others and invites us to join his care team. He partners with imperfect individuals like ourselves to accomplish his work. Who are the people in our society who are stigmatized, shamed, or invisible? How can you take steps to bring care and justice to these groups as a nurse?
Dear Jesus, thank you for your care for me. Help me feel you with me today. Help me care well for others today in your strength. Amen
