Journey With Jesus 365নমুনা
In the concluding chapter of Matthew’s Gospel, two important themes emerge: the Great Commission and what can be seen as the Great Omission.
The Great Commission.
Matthew 28:18-20 records Jesus’ final instruction to His disciples: "And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.’"
This command highlights the responsibility of all believers—not just pastors or religious leaders—to actively share the gospel and make disciples of all nations. Jesus’ assurance that “all power” has been given to Him reinforces the authority behind this commission and assures believers of His presence and empowerment as they carry out His mission. This final directive emphasizes that sharing the love of Christ and spreading His teachings should be of utmost importance to every believer. If we do not carry out this mission, who will?
The Great Omission
An interesting detail in Matthew’s Gospel is that it omits the account of Jesus’ ascension, which is included in other Gospels like Luke and Acts. This is not without reason. Matthew’s emphasis is forward-looking, focusing on the kingdom of Jesus Christ that will one day be established on earth. This omission reinforces the anticipation of Jesus' future return and His eternal reign.
Matthew's focus directs believers' attention to the enduring presence of Christ, His authority, and His eventual return, rather than the moment of His departure. The message is clear: Jesus’ ascension is not the end, but a prelude to His triumphant return and the establishment of His kingdom. Those who endure, trust, and share in this hope are assured of Jesus’ ultimate reign forevermore.
Reflection
Matthew’s conclusion serves as both a charge and a reminder: we are called to participate in God’s mission, sharing His love and truth with the world, while we live in expectation of His glorious return.
How seriously do you take the Great Commission in your own life? What practical steps can you take this week to share the gospel with someone in your circle?
What does it mean to you that “all power” has been given to Jesus, and how does that empower you to share your faith? How can this assurance change your perspective when facing opposition or indifference?
How does the reality of Jesus’ promised return motivate your actions and priorities today? Are you living in a way that reflects readiness for His coming?
