Living in Increase (Part 7) - Increase in Prayer

DAY 11 OF 28

"Forgive Us Our Sins as We Forgive Those Who Sin Against Us."

We all do things that are wrong to varying degrees. We call this “sin.” In Luke 11:4, different Bible translations use words like “debt” or “trespasses,” but they all relate to sin.

While we all make mistakes, we know that Jesus took the punishment on the Cross for all the sins we have done, are doing, or will do in the future. When we accept Salvation, we accept God’s Forgiveness. However, we still can make harmful choices, and it is up to us to acknowledge that we have sinned, ask for God’s Forgiveness, and receive His Forgiveness.

As God forgives us, we are to forgive others. Holding on to grudges and bitterness when someone has hurt us or the ones we love will only hurt us more. In most cases, the truth is that the person who has harmed us has gone on their merry way. We end up spending more time dwelling on the offense than they do!

Our All-Knowing Father knows the choice of forgiveness is not easy. That’s why, in His Wisdom, when He taught us how to pray, He told us to be sure to not only ask for Forgiveness but extend Forgiveness to others. We can only truly receive Forgiveness and Forgive others through His Grace and Mercy!

Action Step: As God brings things to mind that you haven’t Forgiven others for, write them down. When you are alone and quiet, allow yourself to acknowledge the pain or anger that you are holding on to. Then, lift those things to Heaven and release them to God. You might be able to Forgive and let go. You might be led to try to reconcile with the person you are Forgiving. However, seek counsel from a mentor or professional seeking reconciliation, as some relationships do not need to be restored. While the step of Forgiveness for yourself and others may be challenging, it should not be ignored. It is a cornerstone of your walk with Jesus and a Source of Freedom!
