Thirst: Is There More?নমুনা
I CAN'T
Read Psalm 63:1b.
Has the thought ever crossed your mind, "There must be more to a relationship with God than this"? Are life and its challenges often overwhelming? Do you ever feel like a failure? Hurting? Discouraged? All alone? Well, you're not alone. Many women at the grocery store, in your neighborhood, or in church sitting next to you look like they have it all together, but inside most are challenged by many of the same things you are. Listen to what some have shared is happening on the inside:
"Sometimes I am afraid. Really afraid! There is an inner lining of fear that clings to my soul. I wake up feeling afraid, feeling like I have to figure everything out and not knowing how and afraid of what will happen if I don't. I want to conquer this fear."
"I feel hopeless. I can't see how things are ever going to work out or how I am ever going to overcome my weaknesses."
"I call myself a Christian and yet I barely pray. Even though I have a very strong biblical background, I hardly ever open my Bible during the week anymore."
"I want to feel different. I want to conquer my unbelief."
"If I were to describe my day-to-day life and feelings, I would have to say that I am in constant turmoil."
Can you relate? David finds himself in the midst of a desert, yet he knows the source of love and true life and unlimited refreshment (Psalm 63). God wants us to know how to love like this (1 John 4:7-12).
Apart from God, we aren't capable of anything, especially truly loving anyone, let alone loving God. Have you come to the end of yourself? Do you feel like you can't "arrive"? This is a good place to be. The awesome news, though, is that we are able to have an intimate, one-on-one, love relationship with God. How is this possible? David says that he hungers and thirsts and yearns after God. The place of "I can't" is a great place to be. Because then we will stop trying and depend on God, who is the only one who can get us there.
Ask God to help you. Depend upon His grace and allow His Word to penetrate your heart. Confess any doubt you have in God's ability to change your heart.
