Life on Fireনমুনা
Elijah's nemesis was a Queen called Jezebel. During her rule, the prophets of Yahweh were murdered and idol worship was established amongst the people of God. The people of God were led into lives of sexual immorality and perversion. Queen Jezebel was a physical embodiment of a very wicked spirit that existed long before her, and long after this human woman died. The name Jezebel is mentioned again thousands of years later in Revelation indicating the continued functioning of the evil spirit Jezebel.
When we look at our culture today we can see many ways that this evil spirit is continuing to work and have influence. There are immoral ideas and perverse lifestyles that are acceptable and normal now that only a few decades ago were considered abnormal and unacceptable. Ungodly norms around sexual immorality, gender, and identity are being released across cultures via media, music, education, and even law. All indicating the present and continued work of the spirit of Jezebel seducing the masses into a lifestyle of deception, bondage, and immorality.
Why is this important to be aware of? Because there is a purpose in God's desire for a people who are pure and holy, a mission for those who carry His authentic authority.
In Jesus' letter in Revelation to the Church in Thyatira, He points out their tolerance for the spirit of Jezebel who leads people into sexual immorality and eating foods sacrificed to idols. To this same church, Jesus gives revelation of Himself with fiery eyes. Eyes that burn with jealousy and fierce love for us. Eyes that captivate our hearts and minds so that we cannot tolerate any other lovers. Once we encounter the fire of His holiness, through repentance and submission to God's truth, the deception of the Jezebel spirit loses its power over us. The fire of His presence is transformative; as we yield to His Spirit, His fire becomes our fire, and we are set free.
In short, if we find ourselves surrounded by the spirit of Jezebel in culture, we need only look into the burning eyes of Jesus. He will reveal every area where we have tolerated Jezebel and break every bondage of this spirit.
Only when we are free can we stand victoriously against this spirit.
