The Bible OverBrew - Bible in a Yearনমুনা
Week 52. Day 2. Revelation 4-9.
Rev 4-5 The Throne Room
Can you summarise this scene in 2-3 sentences?
Note: opening the scroll is probably about having authority over history.
What is God praised for?
Rev 6-16 Judgments: Seals, Trumpets, Bowls
Ch 6-16 contain three series of sevens: 7 seals, 7 trumpets and 7 bowls. I’m persuaded that these are parallel cycles of judgment (i.e. the same thing told in three different ways) rather than a linear timeline. Note also that there is often an interlude between the 6th and 7th in the sequence, giving a glimpse of God’s people during this time.
Whilst we won’t get all the details, note the similarities with the plagues on Egypt. Jesus is the slain Passover lamb (5:6). The Egypt-like plague judgments of Rev 6-16 are God’s means of rescuing his people in a new Exodus, bringing about the full and final return to Eden!
6:1-8:5 Seven seals. What is the overall picture?
7:1-17 What do we learn of God's people in this time?
NOTE: Days 1-5 of each week contain the scripture reading for that week. Day 6 has just the 'key chapters'. If you want a briefer version of this plan that still takes you through the whole Bible, you could just read the key chapters featured on day 6. Day 7 has the podcast video where we discuss the week's reading.
About this Plan
The Bible OverBrew is a friendly virtual book group, helping you read the Bible in big chunks, preferably with a mug of tea! Maybe you've tried to read through the Bible before, but gave up when it felt confusing or too intense? We are here to help you! We provide notes and questions to guide your reading, and note ‘key chapters’ if you don’t have time to read it all. In our podcast at the end of each week we draw out the key themes, and how it all points to Christ. We’d love you to join us!
