The Bible OverBrew - Bible in a Year

DAY 23 OF 365

Week 4. Day 2. Exodus 21-24.

Ex 21:1 These are the laws (lit: the ‘judgments’) Chapters 21-23 are ‘case law’ – the 10 commandments applied to particular contexts. Some of the laws may seem unfamiliar, due to our situation being different to that of the Israelites, but it can be helpful to see every law as in some way fleshing out the 10 commandments.

Ch 21-23 Note down some of the areas governed by these laws in ch21-23.

Ch 24 The covenant is confirmed.

Note v6-8 – the old covenant is inaugurated by the shedding of blood, and the sprinkling it on the people (c.f. 1 Pet 1:2)

Notice who goes where in this chapter:

·Moses is allowed to the top of the mountain and the presence of the Lord (v2)

·Moses, Aaron, Nadab and Abihu (the priests) and the elders are alllwed part way up the mountain, from where they can see God, and they eat and drink (v9-11)

·The people remain at a distance (v2)

NOTE: Days 1-5 of each week contain the scripture reading for that week. Day 6 has just the 'key chapters'. If you want a briefer version of this plan that still takes you through the whole Bible, you could just read the key chapters featured on day 6. Day 7 has the podcast video where we discuss the week's reading.

About this Plan

The Bible OverBrew - Bible in a Year

The Bible OverBrew is a friendly virtual book group, helping you read the Bible in big chunks, preferably with a mug of tea! Maybe you've tried to read through the Bible before, but gave up when it felt confusing or too intense? We are here to help you! We provide notes and questions to guide your reading, and note ‘key chapters’ if you don’t have time to read it all. In our podcast at the end of each week we draw out the key themes, and how it all points to Christ. We’d love you to join us!
