Passing Life's Tests in the New Yearনমুনা
Day 4: Multiple Choice Tests
While fill-in-the-blank tests have you waiting for an answer, multiple-choice tests occur when you have more than one option you can choose, and you wonder which one is the best. In these scenarios where you have more than one choice you could make, you often use discernment to help you determine which option is the right one. But sometimes there may be more than one right choice!
We’ve all had those pesky multiple-choice tests in school where the teacher adds the options “Both A and B” or “All of the above” for the possible answer.
These can be times in your life when God is giving you the freedom to make a choice.
In 1 Kings 3, the Lord appears to King Solomon during the night in a dream and says, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.”
Solomon asks God for a discerning heart to govern the people and to distinguish between right and wrong.
God was so pleased with Solomon’s answer and said that since he asked for wisdom instead of something more selfish like wealth or the death of his enemies, he would not only give him the wisdom he sought but also wealth and honor. He got “all of the above.”
When parents try to raise their children in a way that helps them learn to live godly lives and make wise choices, they usually start by more directly pointing their children toward good options and the benefits and good fruit that come from them. It’s not guaranteed that children will follow this path when they are older, but when they do, it delights their parents when they see their grown children trying to discern and make godly choices for themselves.
It must be the same way for our Heavenly Father. As we mature in our faith and relationship with God, He gets great delight in giving us multiple options for paths that allow us to experience his blessing and guidance. He can trust us to trust Him and want to honor him with our choices.
