Day 57 • Summary • Jeremiah 31:23–44
Jeremiah writes that the people’s perpetual disobedience to the Law reveals their need for a new covenant. When he sends a scroll of his messages to Jehoiakim, the king arrogantly burns it. Later, Jeremiah is thrown into prison and then placed in a cistern to die. Following his rescue, his counsel to submit to the Babylonians is rejected, and Jerusalem falls. A rebellious remnant takes Jeremiah captive to Egypt.
