Five Things to Look for in a Future Husband

DAY 4 OF 5

It can be a hard reality to accept, but as a Christian, you need to look for a man who shares your faith. 2 Corinthians 6:14 spells it out clearly. Resist any temptations to compromise on this. Imagine trying to row a boat with your future husband. What will happen if you row in different directions? You'll just go in circles. That's why shared vision and values are crucial in a marriage. This doesn't mean you need to agree on everything, but your core beliefs, values, and life goals should line up.

Take time to talk about your views on important topics like faith, family, finances, and the future. How does he look at married life? What are his career goals? How does he manage money? What role does he see faith playing in your daily lives and in raising children? Amos 3:3 directs intentionality and wisdom before making a commitment to someone. Be intentional to find out where he stands.

Look for someone whose direction in life complements yours. If you're called to mission work, for example, a spouse who wants a high-stress corporate career might not be the best fit. Your values should also line up on key issues. Things like how you treat others, your views on honesty and integrity, and your approach to work and rest.

Remember, differences are not a bad thing. In fact, I think God uses our differences to grow us. As we learn to embrace those differences, it is essential to have unity in the important areas of life and faith.

Prayer:

Father, I pray for a man whose vision of life and his values are built on a foundation of faith in You. In Jesus' name. Amen.
