Grateful Hearts

DAY 1 OF 4

Giving Thanks for Our Spiritual Growth

This Bible passage was written by the apostle Paul who, after being scourged and imprisoned, founded the church of Thessalonica along with his disciples, Silas and Timothy.

It is said that this church was composed mostly of manual workers and some slaves so it is likely that they depended on the charity of others. In this passage, however, Paul emphasized to them the importance of maintaining an attitude ofconstant gratitude in the face of the Lord's spiritual favor.

Often, in our prayers of gratitude, we thank God for the roof, the food, the car, and so many other things on the earthly plane—but we forget to thank Him for those on a spiritual level.

Meditate: Do you thank God for your spiritual growth?

Have you ever wondered how to measure your spiritual growth? Today's key passage precisely brings an answer to this question.

Notice that it mentions the measure of faith and the way to love others—inner changes that are reflected externally. If you compare your life 5 years ago with your life today, do you think your faith in God is stronger and firmer today? Has it changed the way you think and talk about difficult circumstances? Have you improved in the way you treat and serve others?

Today I want to invite you to say the following prayer:

Prayer: Lord, on this day I recognize that you are worthy to receive all glory, honor, and gratitude for all the physical and spiritual blessings I receive from you. I thank you that, although I do not always see it, I know that you give me the growth I need to bear good fruit and bless others. In Jesus' name. Amen.
