The Unpopular Jesus

DAY 8 OF 8

How do I overcome the feelings of being offended by what God does to me and allow my life to be? Is He aware of me? Does He know where I live and what my situation is?

You will have to start at the cross, where you will be able to see two things: First, you will have to think very carefully about the indescribable violence that happened on the cross and the price that Jesus paid to reconcile you to God our Father. No one has greater love than this, that He lays down His life for His friends — and that's what Jesus did for us (John 15:13). The second thing you need to consider is the frightening evil of your sins. Think of the magnitude of the price that had to be paid to set you free from your sins. Remember this as you think about how God has shown his love to us: While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8).

Understanding these two facts allows us to know that if Jesus paid such a price for us, He would do nothing to hurt, harm, neglect, or forget about us.

To the extent that you can see Jesus and the depth of His devotion to you, you will stop being offended by how the Father treats you. You can stop giving way to any mistrust.

It is of the utmost importance to study Jesus, see Him, draw close to Him, and listen to His heartbeat and the things He sighs about. To the extent that we grow in intimacy with Him, understanding and seeing His heart, we will surrender ourselves to the way He treats us. Once you surrender more and more to Jesus actively, you'll start to discover the depths of His wisdom, love, and care for you—despite the things you don't understand.

About this Plan

The Unpopular Jesus

Many times, Jesus is popular, especially when He answers our prayers and protects us in great danger. However, He may not be so popular when the winds of persecution blow against us, when some of our prayers go unanswered, and we struggle financially. How do we need to live in those situations?
