The Holy Spirit is in me—I am not alone.

When I began to discover that God is with me and close to me—not far off and disconnected, but alive and near—I felt comforted, but rattled as well. When I began to see God as there and real and living, my spirit shook! Not shaking with an unhealthy fear but in an intimate way. I was realizing, God was personal—a present God.

Do you ever feel overwhelmed by the troubles of your life? You don't have to face them alone. When you first accepted Jesus, the Holy Spirit came to live within you! Maybe you’ve heard that a lot. Let’s think about what that means.

The Bible sometimes calls the Holy Spirit, "the Advocate." An advocate is like a friend who stands up for you and protects you from injustice. The Holy Spirit is our Advocate because He connects us to the Father. And He's always with us, directing us to what’s best for us. He clears a path in front of us and always has our back. He's the One who helps us understand His Living Word.

John 14:16-17 says...

…I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads you into all truth…

Who is the Holy Spirit?

The Holy Spirit is one person of the three-person God. Because He lives within you, you have a direct connection with God, every moment of your life.

He'll never abandon you. He's the One who is present—right now—and able to help! Sometimes the Bible calls Him “the Helper.” The Spirit of God will help you thrive. You can call on Him for support whenever you need Him. He’s a friend.

John 14:26 says this about the Holy Spirit...

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.

Lord, thank You for being with us, for working in our hearts, minds, and souls, and spirit. Thank You for Your Spirit who constantly helps us understand You, and helps us love You, and love others well. You are here, Lord, making your home inside of me, even now, transforming me day by day. Because of You, I am never alone. Amen.
