God's Not Dead: In God We Trust

DAY 2 OF 5

DAY 2: Our Actions Should Reflect Love, Compassion, and Respect

True service requires integrity, humility, and sacrifice. These sacrifices might take the form of time, energy, money, resources, and wise counsel. Are those times of service always convenient? Many times not, but our willingness to serve others in their time of need reflects God’s heart in our own.

Humble leaders walk in integrity, seek God's guidance, and align their actions with His will. He expects us to lead with humility by cultivating an environment of trust and authenticity. Humility and integrity also involve treating others with love, kindness, respect, and valuing their contributions and perspectives. 1 Peter 5:5 reminds us to "Clothe yourselves with humility toward one another because, 'God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.'"

In the film, we can see the true character of Reverend Hill, a local pastor. When he responds to the challenge of running for Congress, he feels ill-equipped and unqualified for political office. Certainly, he has little knowledge of how difficult the campaign process can be. Still, he answers the call and trusts that God has a plan.

Despite his naivete in the world of political ambitions, David Hill lives a simple life of contentment and interest in others. There’s no doubt the fruit of the Spirit has developed in his life. For as we read of this evidence in Galatians 5:22-23, the pastor’s character displays love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. And through this, we, the viewers, can learn from his example.

Here’s another Scripture passage to dwell on throughout your week. Colossians 3:12-13 encourages us with Paul’s wisdom.“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
