How does God show love to His people today?

Often God demonstrates His love through you and me.

Believers in Jesus are radically changed on the inside. The Holy Spirit takes up residence in us when we put our faith in Jesus. What an amazing truth! And instead of growing in our faith by trying harder, Galatians 5 tells us to keep in step with the Spirit. When we do, we begin to produce the Holy Spirit’s fruit in our life.

The first fruit mentioned is love.

And while we know we should love all people, sometimes it’s difficult. And that’s why chapter 6 urges us not to get tired of doing good. A reward is coming. Show love – do good to all people – especially to those who are in God’s family.

This love will be seen as we encourage people through the messy times in their lives. Surprisingly, when we share God’s restoration to our brokenness and failure, others are inspired to hope.

Love is also shown by sharing joy with people, rejoicing in their victories, and cheering them on no matter how old or young they may be in their faith.

Peace is a precious gift we share in uncertain times. Many around us feel anxious. People are afraid. But Jesus is secure. He’s our anchor, our source of peace. Often, peace is given through the loving interaction with a fellow believer whose heart is rooted in Jesus’ truths.

When others fail, as we all do, patience shows love. Compassion in times of failure puts the love of God on full display. We are called to be the kind of person we wish we had as a coach when we were starting our walk of faith.

These and other fruit of the Spirit are not accomplished by our efforts. They are produced when we keep in step with the Holy Spirit. As we walk with Him, His love will be shown to others.

So, Let’s Reflect and Respond:

Fruit is produced simply because the branch stays connected to the vine. We produce fruit by living out reality – the Holy Spirit dwells in us. Ask Him to help you produce the fruit of love where you recognize it is lacking in your life.

Now, Let’s Pray:

Father, I want to walk in step with Your Spirit in me. Help me to produce His fruit, specifically the fruit of love. Help me to show selfless love to all your children.Amen. (And name those Christians you have trouble loving.)
