Heart Check

DAY 4 OF 4

In 1 Chronicles 29, King David gives his son Solomon the plans to build a beautiful temple for the Lord. Families throughout ancient Israel begin to donate their gold and silver for the construction of the temple. After seeing their generosity, David praises the Lord and recognizes the way God works with both our hearts and our finances for His great plan. In 1 Chronicles 29, God provided wealth to the people of Israel so that they could be generous. In the same way, God will provide for us with the expectation that we bless others with our charity.

Furthermore, God tested the hearts of the people of Israel and saw that their hearts wilfully gave to the temple with good intent. While being generous is important, having the right heart posture is also as important. God loves a cheerful giver who gives voluntarily. Being generous is a choice that we have to decide for ourselves. While giving is not always easy, it is very rewarding. Our Savior Jesus, who healed our hearts, even said that it is better to give than to receive. A part of our new life with Jesus is that He asks us to help mend the broken world we live in. One way we do this is by meeting others' needs through donating what God has already given us. When we are generous, not only are we honoring God, but we are showing His love through providing for others.

If you’re struggling with generosity, remember these two things. God ultimately provides for all of your needs, including finances, and He can bless you so that you may meet the needs of those around you. And as 1 Chronicles 29:18 reminds us, God ultimately keeps our hearts devoted to Him, so turn to the Lord always to find help in trusting and honoring Him with your money and generosity.

About this Plan

Heart Check

Where is your heart? Our heart is something much more than just physiological. The heart is associated with a spiritual posture of obedience towards God for the purpose of others. So many of our decisions start with the posture of our heart, such as worship, relationships, life choices, and even generosity. God desires for us to give out of our heart, so what does it look like to honor God through our finances?
