Fighting Loneliness: Created for Community & Meaningful Companionship

DAY 2 OF 4

Brighter Days

Whew! Okay — you’re back. I’m glad you weren’t scared off by the dreary cycle on Day 1. Hang in here with me, as it only gets brighter from this point.

Let’s dive in. What does God’s Word have to say …

“The heart knows its own bitterness and a stranger does not share its joy.”- Proverbs 14:10 NKJV.

This verse highlights the loneliness that we have all felt at one point or another. The ERV puts it this way: When you are sad, no one else feels the pain: and when you are happy, no one else can really feel the joy.

But what does this mean? Are we never going to have the fulfillment of having our hearts known by another? Read on, friend.

The truth is that a stranger cannot share our joy, only those who genuinely love us can share our joy. Ta-da! The answer lies in community and in cultivating meaningful companionship.

Life’s sorrows are minimized when we become vulnerable and allow others to bear our burdens. The Bible commands us to bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2). The fact that the heart knows its own bitterness doesn’t mean no one will ever understand our pain. Quite the opposite is true. God will not forsake us (thank you Jesus! Matthew 28:20)! He brings divine relationships into our lives to reveal His love. It’s through this gift that our wounds are healed, our broken hearts are restored, and our lives begin to shine brighter and brighter. To God be the glory!
