7 Ways to Maintain Purity in Your Christian Relationshipনমুনা
Day 5: How To Maintain Purity, pt. 4
“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial.“I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything. You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both.” The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. By his power, God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.” But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit.
Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies. - 1 Corinthians 6:12-20
Finally, and perhaps the most important way to maintain purity, is to remember why you’ve decided to wait for sex until marriage in the first place.
7. Remember the “Why”
It's easy to get caught up in the moment and forget why you made the decision to wait. That’s why it’s important to keep reminding yourselves why you chose this path and what it means to both of you. This shared commitment can help you stay focused and motivated, even when it gets tough.
Maybe it’s because you want to honor your faith, build a strong foundation for your future, or simply because it feels right for both of you. Whatever your reasons, they are valid and worth remembering.
Take time to talk about these reasons with each other. Sharing your thoughts and feelings can strengthen your connection and give you a renewed sense of purpose. It also helps to celebrate the milestones you reach together as a couple. Whether it’s an anniversary or a special date, recognizing these moments can keep you motivated and focused on the bigger picture.
You can also create little reminders of your commitment around you. It could be a note on the mirror, a bracelet, or even a shared journal where you write down your thoughts and prayers. These small gestures can be powerful in keeping you grounded and focused on your goals.
When things get tough, lean on each other for support. Remember that you’re in this together and that your shared commitment is something to be proud of. Encouraging each other and celebrating your progress can make the journey easier and more joyful.
And don’t forget to have fun along the way! Enjoy the process of getting to know each other on a deeper level, exploring new activities together, and building a strong foundation for your future. Keeping your relationship lighthearted and joyful will make it easier to stick to your commitment and enjoy the journey.
