We just want to learn more
There they walk, the women who follow Jesus. They move together, sharing life but cannot read and write. As is still the case today in some places in this world, the boys receive education, but the girls do not. And of course that has all kinds of consequences.
What do you do when you don't (yet) have the "tools" and "skills" to make something your own? Do you then sit down? Do you resign yourself to it?
These women don't! They go exploring together. "We just want to learn more." Truly a wonderful attitude.
We all have an innate "instinct" to learn and grow. This is normal, and we are right to worry if a child is not developing, for example. It shouldn't.
Learning thus.
The last words of Rabbi Jesus were also about that. Just read them in Matthew 28. It is about "to disciple" (as a ‘verb’) and "teaching them to keep”. Going the way of Jesus together and passing on what we have received as teaching from Him.
There are people around you who just want to learn more. Like these women, their hearts are open to Jesus; they want to know Him better. To know what He says means. Do you want to be someone who walks beside them? To "disciple" them and teach them?
You don't have to "know" a lot to do that first. Just pass on what you know, what you have learned from Jesus. That's enough for now.
Or maybe you are someone who just wants to be taught. Maybe like those women, you want to be helped, and you want to grow in knowing Jesus and His teaching.
Then I encourage you to find someone around you who can walk beside you. Someone who has known Jesus for some time and whom you trust.
Walking together, following Jesus together.
Take the following questions to think about:
- What would you like to learn in the near future?
- What may you teach someone else?
- Jesus' teaching was mostly just "on the road," touching on everyday life. We would call that experiential teaching today. Who are you on the road with? And what may you pass on/teach to that person?
Prayer: "Lord, thank You that You are the Master and we are the students. You are the Rabbi, we are the disciples. We want to learn from You. Lord speak Your words, speak Your teaching, and help us to work with it. To put it into practice. Amen."
