The King of Israel

DAY 1 OF 7

Day 1 – Israel’s Redeemer

When the angel Gabriel tells Mary that she will have a child, he not only says that He is the Son of God, but also that He will be the King of Israel forever. The promised Savior of the end times is called by many names in the Bible: the Servant of God, Immanuel, Lion of Judah, Messiah... but He is also specifically called the King of Israel.

What will He do when He comes? Both the Old and New Testaments give the same answer: He will end the affliction of Israel and judge the nations. God has dealt with the sins of the nations differently from those of Israel. He has often punished His people to purify them. In contrast, God has endured and saved up the sins of the world until the end of history. Both Isaiah and Revelation tell us that Jesus will come to judge the nations.

That is why Mary also sings about the future redemption of Israel in her song of praise when she is pregnant. And also why the father of John the Baptist thanks God that the time has now come when Israel will be able to serve God without fear, freed from all its enemies. We must take these words and promises of God literally. We do not have a single reason not to. Jesus is truly the King of Israel who will bring deliverance to God's people from all suffering and misery.

Pray today that the Jewish people’s misery and suffering will come to an end soon.
