To Save America: The Ten Commandments

DAY 9 OF 10

In our time, the concept of the ninth commandment has been pushed aside and marginalized along with all the rest of God’s timeless precepts. Nevertheless, the biblical precedent remains valid and is upheld in the courts of Heaven. We must tell the truth, and it is detestable to lie. It’s wrong to lie to your neighbor. It’s wrong to lie to your spouse. And if you are entrusted with the responsibility of leading and serving the American people, it is wrong to lie to them.

Even exaggeration—stretching the truth—is a violation of this holy command. The reality of the day in which we live is that almost no one you meet lives their life telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. And yet, the truth is what we must tell.

The ninth commandment, written in stone by God Himself says, “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor” (Exodus 20:16, NKJV). End of story. If someone asks you something, tell the truth. If you dare to talk about someone else, by all means, only tell the truth. Lying should have no place in your life, in your mouth, or in your conversation.

There is joy and peace in knowing the truth and living your life accordingly. Jesus said, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly My disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:31–32, NASB). Truth can set you free. That's why the world hates the Word of God and cannot stand the truth of the Bible.

The world wants to keep people in bondage and slavery. They can't stand the idea that God has established an absolute standard of right and wrong for all people, for all times. They call the Ten Commandments dangerous because they point people to God. And when people come to God, they can be saved, healed, and set free.

The Ten Commandments were given thousands of years ago by God. And God does not change. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. What He said then on the top of Mount Sinai, He still means today. Therefore, the ninth commandment was not only for people who lived generations ago. but it is also for us, now and today.
