Daily Bible Reading— August 2024, God’s Guiding Word: Faithনমুনা
August 9
Introduction
Judges 4:1–24: Following a time of peace, the Israelites once again disobey God and are conquered by the Canaanites as punishment. God chooses a female prophet, Deborah, to serve as judge, and she is instructed to command Barak to lead the people in battle against Jabin, the Canaanite king, who has oppressed the Israelites cruelly.
Today’s Key Verse: Judges 4:14a
Then Deborah said to Barak, “Go! The LORD is leading you!”
Reflect
Why does Barak want Deborah to go with him? What does his request tell you about Deborah? Deborah tells Barak that he will not get credit for the victory because the LORD will hand the commander of the Canaanite army, Sisera, over to a woman. How does this come about? How would you characterize Deborah and Jael?
Pray
Almighty God, lead me each day and guide me in the ways of your truth. I place my trust in you, knowing you are with me always. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
Judges 5:1–31: Deborah and Barak sing about the LORD’s victory over the Canaanite army.
