Worldwide Revival: An 8 Day Devotional with Newsboysনমুনা
DAY THREE: IN GOD WE TRUST
“I will say concerning the Lord, who is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust: He himself will rescue you from the bird trap, from the destructive plague. He will cover you with his feathers; you will take refuge under his wings. His faithfulness will be a protective shield. You will not fear the terror of the night, the arrow that flies by day, the plague that stalks in darkness, or the pestilence that ravages at noon.” – Psalm 91: 2-7
Refuge, fortress, rescuer, protector. That is who He is. Psalm 91 is full of the promises of God, and when we wrote In God We Trust, our ultimate goal was to put those words into a song. How do you capture the promises of God with a lyric? How can one song explain the vastness of His Love, and His protection?
All of us face stressors and complications of our everyday lives that can make it hard to remember the promises of God. Financial strain, family dynamics, workplace struggles. The enemy is always at work, and his number one priority is for you to forget that God is your refuge, your fortress, your rescuer, and your protector. We cannot let the enemy win that fight.
That’s why this song was written. Putting the lyrics to paper felt sort of like writing a hate song to Satan, and a love song to God.
In God We Trust // In God We Trust // Cause There Is Power In His Name // Age To Age He’s Still The Same // In God We Trust // Jehovah // He is Rapha // He is Jireh // He’s The Banner Over Us // In God We Trust
Psalm 91 is a battle cry, a reminder to us that despite even our worst circumstances, we don’t face them alone. The Lord is on our side, fighting right alongside us. Speaking (well, singing) that truth boldly and out loud reminded us of the incredible reality of what it means to be unconditionally loved by God.
Odds are, you’re reading this and probably have some sort of trouble on your mind. Maybe your marriage isn’t in a good place, or things at school are really challenging. Maybe you’re facing unimaginable pain, or grieving the loss of a loved one. We won’t pretend to know what that trouble is, but know that whatever it is that’s on your mind today is important to God. He’s right there in the mess of it all with you, all you have to do is draw near to Him. Consider this today:
“Therefore, submit to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. ” – James 5:7-8
1. What are the giants in your life that YOU need to turn over to God?
2. What is a tangible way that can you practice trusting in God today?
Wherever you are today, as you face your giants, listen to the lyrics of this song. Sing them out loud, straight to satan!
