Godly Masculinity – the Road Ahead

DAY 6 OF 7

The Powerful and Dangerous Man

Introduction:

Yesterday we explored the different dimensions of our journey. Today, we will explore what it means to become a powerful and dangerous man.

Quote:

“You cannot be humble if you do not know your power. If you do not know your power, you’re not humble, you are just afraid. You’re not Humble you are just complaint. The only person who can be truly humble is the one that knows their strength” Author – Erwin McManus

Myths

Have you ever heard of the following myths:

  • It is all spiritual and never physical
  • A Godly man doesn’t need to be dangerous
  • A Godly man does not need to be physically capable and must only be a ”nice” guy
  • Jesus was not dangerous
  • There is no fight to fight or battle we need to win
  • Men of God don't need a warrior culture

Something to consider – Dr Jordan Peterson

Question:

Does that mean men should be dangerous? By dangerous does that mean I should be ready to threaten someone or ready to hurt someone?

Answer:

You know you could be capable of it, but that doesn't mean you should use it.

People who teach martial arts know this. If you learn a martial art, you learn to be dangerous but simultaneously you learn to control it. Both of those come together and the combination of that capacity for danger and the capacity for control is what brings about the virtue.

How do I become a powerful and dangerous man

To become a powerful and dangerous man of God, the following is required:

  • First, you have to become capable (having the ability, fitness, or quality necessary to do or achieve a specified thing)
  • Then you can become dangerous (The ability to be a threat, to be recognized with and skill to do it)
  • All of this is under the leadership and guidance of the Holy Spirit which equips us with self-control.

What does the Word of God say?

  • Eph. 6:12 (NLT)
    • 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and evil spirits in the heavenly places.
  • It states the following:
    • There is a current fight
    • People are not the enemy but the evil rulers and authorities behind them.
    • However, it does not imply that the fight is only in the spiritual realm.
    • This fight spills over in all dimensions of our lives (physical, mental, and spiritual).

Ready and capable for action

  • You are capable of far more than you think
    • We often get dictated to by the unspoken rules of our society
    • These unspoken rules often misguide us into believing less of what our potential is.
  • God placed you in this time and age for a reason
    • Each generation is presented with its own set of challenges and fights to fight.
    • If you do not do it, your children and their children will have to face it.
  • For that reason, become vigilant and ready for the fight

Dangerous and Ready:

  • The lie
    • The enemy tells us that we do not have to be ready and vigilant. In the meantime, the enemy is preparing his forces to the best of his ability.
    • He will attack and we need to be ready
  • Dangerous: what does it mean?
    • I can act and handle any situation
    • I have developed the temperament to act if required
    • We MUST have that capacity

Dangerous and ready: the outcome:

  • Self-confident
  • Calm in difficult situations
  • Brave in the face of adverse circumstances
  • Self-control
  • The ability to make superior choices

If I am not that man yet, what do I need to do?

  • First, become capable
    • Start to build your capacity
  • Then learn and develop the skills to become dangerous:
    • Self-defense
    • Participate in fighting sports like boxing, MMA, etc.
    • Learn how to handle firearms
    • Cultivate in yourself the “warrior culture” and call up other men to do the same
  • Practice Self-control

NOTE: At no point do we advocate the use of violence. From the perspective of a godly, masculine man, we will always strive for peace. However, we are protectors, we fight for life, stand up for what is right, to push back against the darkness in this world.

Questions to ponder

  • Is there something new that you have learned today?
  • How do you feel about the idea that God made you as a man to be powerful and dangerous? Does it feel liberating?
  • Where do you need attention and what are you going to do about it?
