The Kids' Guide to Heaven and the New Earth

DAY 2 OF 5

What will heaven look like? Well, yesterday we saw that eventually heaven will be here on earth forever. So we should expect for heaven to look a lot like earth does today!

But remember: the Bible says that God will live with us on a “New Earth” (see Revelation 21:1). That doesn’t necessarily mean that God will replace this earth with a brand-new one. Most Bible experts believe that God will transform this earth to make it so much more beautiful and perfect that it will look like a brand-new one.

But there will be at least one brand-new thing on the New Earth: an incredible city God has built called the New Jerusalem!

Revelation 21:16 says the city is a giant cube that is “1,400 miles long…wide and high.” You would need to stack nearly 25,000 Statues of Liberty together to reach the top!

It’s not just the size of the New Jerusalem that’s amazing. It’s also the city’s beauty! The Bible says that God’s city is “made out of pure gold,” its gates are made of pearls, and its walls are “decorated with every kind of jewel,” you can imagine including emeralds, rubies, and turquoise (see Revelation 21:18-21).

Here’s a painting of what the city might look like from my picture book, The Royal in You.

The New Earth is going to look a lot like this earth, but so much more beautiful because God will be with us in His incredible city. Tomorrow, we’ll learn about what on earth we will be doing on earth forever. But for now, discuss these questions:

  • What’s the most beautiful place you’ve ever seen? What might be even more beautiful about that place on the New Earth?
  • How many of you would it take to reach the top of the New Jerusalem? (Hint: Divide 84,000,000 by your height in inches to get the answer!)
  • Why do you think God made the New Jerusalem so big and tall?

Will there be animals in heaven? Will I know my mom and dad there? And are we really just singing for millions of years? Kids have great questions about heaven! Unfortunately, most of culture’s answers leave kids feeling...
