Expose the Secret Plots of the Enemy: 7 Days of Strategic Prayer

DAY 3 OF 7

Day 3: A Path to Victory

Let’s move on to Esther chapter four.

Although the situation starts off grim, this chapter shows us the path and strategy to victory in warfare.

“When Mordecai learned about all that had been done and the plot to kill his people, he tore his clothes, put on burlap and ashes, and went out into the city, crying with a loud and bitter wail. He went as far as the gate of the palace, for no one was allowed to enter the palace gate while wearing clothes of mourning” (Esther 4:1–2 NLT).

This showed Mordecai’s humility, heartbreak, and sorrow. When the enemy’s wicked plans seem to be prevailing in our land, it is natural to experience feelings of heartbreak. When our backs are against a proverbial wall during spiritual warfare, we should take a page from Mordecai’s book and humble ourselves before God. Mordecai knew God had placed him and Queen Esther in their specific positions so that God could bring deliverance to the Jews.

Prior to Esther coming to the realization that she was chosen by God for such a time as this, Mordecai had to awaken her to her truth. In the infamous verse, Esther 4:14 (NLT), he speaks truth to power by stating:

“If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die. Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for such a time as this?”

Then, the supernatural strategy to expose Haman’s wicked plot goes into effect.

Once Esther accepted her role, she responded to Mordecai saying, “Go and gather all the Jews … and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will do the same” (Esther 4:16 NLT). Through Esther’s leadership, the Jews fasted and prayed, and asked God to intervene.

Reflection:

The immediate reaction to wickedness is usually anger, sadness, and fear. Mordecai was likely bombarded with all of these emotions simultaneously. Still, as God’s chosen intercessor, he did not allow these emotions to overtake him. He mourned, but in that place of heartbreak and humility, he found the courage and wisdom to inform the queen about what was happening. When she didn’t respond in a favorable manner through their first correspondence, he sent a second note to Queen Esther telling her that it was all or nothing.

How have you been impacted by the wickedness around you?

Who might God be calling you to speak to or on behalf of?

Who are you interceding for right now?

Does your assignment require you to speak truth to power?

Prayer:

Father God, I thank you for placing me and other intercessors in positions of influence and authority to bring your kingdom to earth. Help us not to become overwhelmed by the emotions we feel as a result of the wickedness around us. Holy Spirit, open doors for us to speak truth to power when those in power refuse to recognize the truth. Help us to be bold and courageous knowing that you are with us everywhere we go. In the name of Jesus, amen.
