Lord's Prayer: Deliver Us From Evil

DAY 3 OF 5

Under the image of a dragon, Revelation 12 weaves together different Biblical perspectives on the Evil One calling him the ancient serpent, the accusing Satan, the devil, and the one who leads the world astray.

Our first glimpse starts all the way back in Genesis 3. Here we see him as a serpent.

First, it’s important to say that the serpent is more than a serpent. The author gives clues that this is more than some ordinary snake. He’s described as crafty or shrewd, and with a certain sense of guile tempts Adam & Eve into disobedience against God. It’s the first recorded spiritual attack of the Evil One on God’s creation.

From here stems the misery of evil in the world. People now distance themselves from God and hide from him. Shame enters in. So does suffering and death. What’s important to see though – and you don’t want to miss it! – is that despite the consequences of sin, God has a solution. He embeds hostility between people and the serpent. God makes sure we hate evil and its effects on our hearts. There’s more. The serpent will crawl on his belly and eat dust. Don’t miss the big picture. We’re talking about the overthrow of evil here. Evil and the Evil One will be brought down.

From the beginning, people have suffered from the Evil One. God has a solution. God trumps evil. Evil will not win!

Consider this today…

About this Plan

Lord's Prayer: Deliver Us From Evil

Christians are different. They can’t help it. When you’re in Christ and filled with the Spirit, it changes you. This leads to strange expectations. It’s a different kind of hope flowing from Christ’s perspective on things. This is the eighth and final in a series of 5-day plans that uses the Lord’s Prayer to show how Jesus invites us to approach life and the future.
