True Prosperity vs. The Riches of This World

DAY 2 OF 9

Solomon’s Riches

Listen to our friend Thulani talk about the rise and fall of Solomon, the richest man on earth.

Riches, prosperity, and success followed King Solomon, but they proved to be too much for him. His appetite for more led to hundreds of foreign wives and concubines who enticed him to worship their gods. God had explicitly warned his chosen people about this behavior (Deut 7:3–4). The covenant relationship with God was broken. The consequences of Solomon’s sin meant that his heir would reign over only one of the twelve tribes of Israel. Solomon’s legacy became the disbanded kingdom of Israel and a broken relationship with God.

Solomon’s story is a powerful admonition that wealth and success as the ultimate ambition are never satisfying. Insatiable appetites lead to ruin. They pull us away from true prosperity—a right relationship with God.
