Why Do You Call Him ‘Lord, Lord?’ Fitness & Lordshipনমুনা
Purpose: Are our fitness goals in alignment with His will?
If we choose to call Him Lord, and we've made Him Lord of our fitness decisions, the next step is aligning our goals with His will. Each year since 2010, I've chosen one word to guide my year. New Year's Resolutions have never worked for me. But year after year, my one word nudges me back in line with what I have heard as my assignment from God. For 2024, my word is ‘Alignment.’ This word whispers to my soul as I go through the day. As I recover from shoulder surgery, there are times when I stretch and work out that it feels overwhelming, not because it hurts, but because it's hard. I want to give up, but I can't. To align with my purpose in serving God as a woman, wife, mother, grandmother, and athlete, I need a full range of motion in my arm. A full range of motion in our spiritual lives means stretching ourselves out of what is comfortable and aligning all aspects of our lives with His will.
We align ourselves with His will as we follow these directions in Psalm 37:3-5 from the Passion Translation, “Keep trusting in the Lord and do what is right in his eyes. Fix your heart on the promises of God, and you will dwell in the land, feasting on his faithfulness. Find your delight and true pleasure in Yahweh, and he will give you what you desire the most. Give God the right to direct your life, and as you trust him along the way, you’ll find he pulled it off perfectly!”
He makes everything perfect when He is allowed the right to direct us physically, emotionally, and spiritually. As we surrender our well-being to His direction, this act of vulnerability strengthens our intimacy with Him. We begin to recognize Him in every breath we take and every movement we make. Desiring more of His presence as we feast on His faithfulness keeps us spiritually aligned.
Distraction and disconnection interfere with our well-being. And when our eyes are focused on a specific goal instead of Him, it's safe to say that distraction needs to be evaluated. It is the act of noticing His presence in all our ways that keeps our hearts fixed on His promises.
Goal: Allow God to direct my fitness goals.
Assignment: Pray and ask God to reveal the areas of your life, thoughts, and beliefs that need to come into alignment with His direction.
Question for Reflection: What distractions or goals are keeping you from fixing your delight on Him?
