True Freedom

How does freedom allow us to love others better? When we are free from shame, guilt, and fear, we have more room in our lives, as well as more energy, to bless others. When we are filled with the love of God and set free by his mercy and kindness, we are able to move in the tide of his great compassion toward others.

Jesus’ love is pure and full of the fruit of his goodness. It is not self-seeking. It overflows in abundance. We need never live without it, filling up on his new mercies every morning. And when we do, we give to others out of the overflow of Christ’s love in our lives. How can we become even freer of self-indulgence so that we can serve one another better? That is the way of the cross.

Jesus Christ, you are the way, the truth, and the life. You have set me free to live in your love, and I’m so grateful! May I never become so consumed with my own plans and dreams that I forget to reach out to others in love. I will not make comfort an idol, for I know your way is better.
