Stewarding the Gift of Prophecyনমুনা
Day 3 - Being Intentional
1 Corinthians 14:31 - For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged. (NKJV)
All believers have the green light to operate in and steward the gift of prophecy.
That being said, the Bible gives us clear parameters on how to do so:
- This should be done inside a healthy community of believers (Romans 12 and 1 Corinthians 12-14).
- Love is the motive (1 Corinthians 13).
- In proper New Covenant prophetic protocol (1 Corinthians 14:3).
There is a key to growing and stewarding this gift, and that is this: you must be intentional and consistent if you truly want to grow in this gift.
“For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn.” (1 Cor. 14:31) You learn by doing. You learn by stepping into this pursuit and stewardship with biblical understanding and love as the motive. You begin to understand it the more you immerse yourself in this pursuit with the Holy Spirit.
1 Timothy 4:14 "Do not neglect the spiritual gift within you, which was granted to you through words of prophecy with the laying on of hands by the council of elders." (NASB) The word for “neglect” in this verse from the Greek is ameleó (am-el-eh'-o) – without concern, unaffected, viewing something as being without significance, i.e. without perceived value.
The Apostle Paul was directing Timothy not to look at his spiritual gifting “without significance, i.e. without perceived value.”
1 Corinthians 14:1 Pursue love, yet earnestly desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. (NASB) God wouldn’t call us to, “earnestly desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy,” and then not allow us to operate in the gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy.
We have been given the great gift of heaven, the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13), and inside the Holy Spirit are all the gifts of the Spirit. Therefore, the Gift Giver lives inside of you and wants to use you to share His miraculous power and love with the world around you.
Prayer: Lord, I ask for grace and understanding to partner with You and grow in this gift of prophecy. God, use me to draw people into salvation and deeper intimacy with You through the power of Your Spirit.
