Overcoming: Devotions From Time of Grace

DAY 24 OF 35

Marriage and Loneliness Being married means that your best friend will always be there for you, right? Your partner will always be supportive and understanding, always ready to listen and help. Or not. It is amazing how lonely marriage can be when two people have not been taking care of the relationship. The marriage license and ceremony don't guarantee living happily ever after. Marriage is both way better than single people think, but it is also much more work. Wives who expect their husbands to read their minds and husbands who don't listen slowly push each other away. Untreated hurts make one-time lovers withdraw; the loneliness grows. God has a better way. He came to seek us, to bridge the gap. He valued us so much that he made the supreme effort. He expects no less of us in the way we treat each other, especially in our own homes. St. Paul said, "Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you" (Colossians 3:13). What is one thing you can do today to make your spouse's life better?
