The Death and Resurrection of the King

DAY 14 OF 26

Jesus’ true identity

“Jesus said to him, ‘[...] I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.’” (Matthew 26:64)

To all sorts of false accusations, Jesus did not respond. He remained silent. But when He was asked who He was, He spoke plainly. He used words that had deep meaning for the religious leaders. He referred to a prophecy of Daniel. The latter saw in a vision how God sat on a throne of fiery flames and ruled over mankind. Then He gave His divine rule to “one like a son of man” who came with the clouds of heaven. “And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him,” we read in Daniel 7:14.

By quoting these words, Jesus left no doubt about Who He was. He laid claim to divine honor and power. He equated Himself with God! And rightly so, we believe. Jesus is God the Son!

But the Jewish leaders did not even consider that possibility. They just wanted to get rid of Jesus as quickly as possible. They were blinded by their hatred of Him. Paul writes about this: they crucified the Lord of glory (1 Corinthians 2:7-8).

The Lord Jesus was 100% human. But at the same time He was 100% God. Do you keep that in mind in all the Bible stories about Him? How does that make a difference to how you read?
