Growing in Faith
Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality. ROMANS 12:10-13 NKJV
This passage provides followers of Jesus with a snapshot of faith in action. It begins with love— finding ways to show genuine concern and affection for other people. Living and growing in faith in Jesus shows itself in a selfless spirit—allowing others to set an agenda instead of insisting on doing things your way. When you let go of your own agenda, you see what God can accomplish with His. As you grow in your faith, you’ll learn to find joy where others see only despair. You’ll learn to deal with trials and suffering with a patience you didn’t think possible. You’ll carve time out of your busy schedule for prayer because you’ve seen its power. You’ll place a high priority on assisting spiritual “front-line workers” because you recognize the importance of their work. When you commit to growing in faith, yours is not the only life that will be changed.
God, thank You for giving me so much room to grow in my faith. Thank You for showing me in Your Word what faith has the potential to do. Guide me as I work to reach that potential. I understand that it won’t be easy. But the rewards will far outweigh the effort. Show me what my next step is in growing my faith, and then the step after that. Bring people into my life who can help me. Help me to genuinely love others.
And show me how to make a difference in the world around me. Amen.
