Day 3 – Called to His Body & Kingdom (Part 1)
We have established that we are called. Jesus says, “Come follow me” and at this point of the decision-making process we are choosing to say ‘yes’ to Him and establish ourselves as being “called to Him." So, how does this affect the rest of our lives?
Jesus does not just call us to Him and then expect us to work it out on our own. In the gospel of Mark, after Jesus has called the disciples to Himself, He then takes them up onto a mountainside and appoints them.
After the initial call to Him, there is an appointment. We are appointed as His disciples for two things – to build the body (the church) and to extend the Kingdom of God.
Have you ever attended a concert? Perhaps a kid’s concert or a band you love ... being a part of the audience and enjoying the atmosphere; getting carried away with the music or the cute kids and then caught up in the crowd at the end; common conversations; point of connection, but then everyone goes their separate ways. We are not building anything here; we are just attending and spectating.
This is not the way that we are called to be a part of the body of Christ. We are called to be a part of the body of Christ as we are called to Him to operate in the community of the body of believers and to find relationships in the community. The beauty of the body of Christ is that we all get to do our part -- to build together with a common purpose so that all would come to know Jesus and that all would be equipped to outwork their purpose for the Kingdom. And each of us has a different part to play! We are all a part of ensuring the health, structure, and capacity of the church.
Tomorrow we will look at our role in extending the Kingdom.
Today's Questions:
1. How are you responding to the call of God to outwork your call to Him?
2. What are you doing to be part of building the body?
About this Plan
"What is my Calling?" If you've been in church for a while (or even a little bit) chances are you've heard this question before... but what does it all mean, and how do we even find our calling? Over the next seven days, we are going to explore this idea. We will ‘bust some myths’ and become confident and secure in the call of God on our lives.
