Stop Living Like an Imposter

DAY 4 OF 5

Wrestling with God

In today's passage, you see Jacob at his lowest. On the eve of reconnecting with his brother, he withdraws alone to his camp and wrestles all night long with God.

No longer content to live under Esau’s blessing, he seeks his own from the Lord.

Scripture describes this encounter as an even matching. Neither one could overpower the other so to end this God touched his hip socket and confronted him.

What is so incredible to read in this passage is how God is patient in the process.

This was not a quick surrender! Jacob although desperate to no longer live like an imposter was not giving in easily to the process.

The longer you live like an imposter, the harder it is to let go.

However, the most incredible thing happens at this point of the story, in verse 27 God asks Jacob “What is your name?”

The same question his father asked him at the point of deception, God asked him at the point of redemption.

“What is your name?”

He may have wasted years being someone he was not. Living in conflict, instead of contentment, but in this moment, he was given a do-over and answered honestly “Jacob”.

If you need your own do-over, take this moment as yours!

If you have been believing that someone else is in your way like Jacob did with his brother and you are trying to emulate them instead of developing yourself…. what is your name!

If you have allowed your character to be chipped away over time by external influences but you’re ready to take control back and restore yourself to being content again…what is your name!

If you have been holding yourself back, feeling under qualified, unworthy, and paralysed by your own self-doubt …what is your name!

You may not have been wrestling with God all night long, but you certainly have been wrestling with yourself up until this point and this could be your moment to answer with confidence MY NAME IS….
