HOW WE LIVE: Growing Up to Look Like Jesus
"Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work." Ephesians 4:15-16 (NIV)
“What do you want to be when you grow up?”
It’s a common question to ask children. And often, the sincere naiveté of their replies will bring smiles to the faces of adults who “know better.”
But what if we started asking that question to believers of all ages? And what if we did it as a way of reminding ourselves of every Christian’s call to grow up to look more and more like Jesus? Every day and in every way.
God has predestined all his children to be conformed to the image of his Son (Romans 8:29). When we receive Jesus as Lord, we are called to practice living our whole lives in him, rooted and built up in all of his ways (Colossians 2:6-7). And on the day Jesus returns, we will see him as he is, and be shocked by our likeness to his glorious appearance (1 John 3:2).
So, what do you want to be when you grow up? Together, let’s grow up to look like Jesus.
