Day 9 | Allow the Holy Spirit to Help You in Prayer
There will come a time in the life of every believer that leaves him not knowing how to pray or what to pray. This still doesn’t give us permission to sit in silence. The Holy Spirit is our partner in prayer. When we run out of words or do not know what is needed in any given situation, He will help us get the job done. He is our constant companion. He equips us to pray with boldness and confidence.
Imagine you are trying to move a large, heavy table by yourself. You may find it impossible to do or that your efforts alone are so insignificant that you hardly make any real progress. Imagine you have a friend who can lift 500 pounds, and he comes to help you move the table. The two of you together can get the job done.
That is how the partnership of the Holy Spirit works. We are not solely responsible for our prayers. When we run out of strength, we have help. When we run out of words, we have help. When we do not have a clue, we have help. We have the Helper, the Holy Spirit.
Whether we are emotionally, spiritually, or physically weak, we have a partner to help us get the job done. The Holy Spirit will never lead us down the wrong road in prayer because He knows the will of God, and everything He helps us to pray will align with God’s will. Sometimes we are faced with situations so devasting that they cause our hearts to groan, but the Holy Spirit can take these groanings straight to the throne room of God. He infuses our prayers with power.
Our prayer lives will continue to evolve when we make room for the Holy Spirit. He aids us in understanding the Word and will of God. He helps us recognize answers to our prayers, whether they be from the Scriptures, the counsel of other believers, or promptings in our hearts. He will help us evaluate every decision we make. When we believe we have received answers to our prayers, the Holy Spirit gives us confirmation of peace. He helps us understand the timing of God.
The Holy Spirit can search our hearts and intercede on our behalf. He gives us the ability to do God’s will, and that includes when we pray. We do not know what the future holds, but the Holy Spirit does. The Holy Spirit augments, or enlarges our prayers, but He cannot augment what does not exist. The role of prayer in our lives is not to change the mind of God. When we pray, it changes us by giving us the right perspective on things, helping us to see beyond our emotions, and encouraging us to accept the will of God.
Reflection: The Holy Spirit can only be an intercessor for the person who has a relationship with God through receiving His Son Jesus as Savior and Lord. If you have never made this decision, you can do so right now.
Prayer: God, I am a sinner in need of a savior. I repent of my sin. I believe Jesus is the Son of God and that He died for my sins and is alive right now. Jesus, I invite you into my life. Come into my heart now and be my Savior and Lord. Amen.

About this Plan
During Connect 21, we aspire to gain clarity in hearing God's voice and making His wisdom our guiding light throughout the year. To achieve this, we commit to subduing the desires of our flesh through fasting, redirecting the time spent on meals to prayer, and glorifying God. This spiritual discipline empowers us to experience God's presence and to witness His transformative power in our lives.
