As an adult, it’s hard to ask for help. We like to figure things out on our own, we don’t like to feel like we are reliant on others or that we can’t do everything by only relying on ourselves. It’s much harder to admit we don’t know, we can’t do it all, and knowing and admitting that’s true isn’t a weakness, but a healthy thing. We weren’t made to do it all. Our bodies and our souls need rest, they need to stop pushing so hard like everything is dependent on us.
The writer of this proverb understood that. In fact, what if he isn’t saying to trust God because we need God to tell us what to do and instead, he’s saying, “trust God” because he knows it will take some pressure off of ourselves? What if this proverb is less a command and more a gift? A way for us to stop feeling we have to have it all figured out and take care of everything and just bear the weight of the world on our shoulders?
We were never meant to carry it all. Trusting God, submitting to God means acknowledging what is ours to do and what isn’t, it’s knowing our place, and trusting God with the rest. What if today you stopped resisting your role as a person, or human, and just allowed yourself to be one? What if you allowed God to handle the things you were never meant to carry on your own? You may be surprised how much relief you feel in the process.

Everyone is different, yet we all share a common quality. Deep down, we were created to be deeply known by others and by God. We were made to experience relationships with others and a relationship with God that’s personal. Because when it’s personal, it changes things. Things matter more. People matter more. Over the next few weeks, we will discover a personal God and what that means for us.
