Leadership Lesson
In his grace, God gives Jesus-style leaders an undeserved but significant part in the work that he is doing.

Comment
As we conclude this Plan on grace and leadership, it is worthwhile relishing God’s grace just one more time. Of course, this Scripture is addressed to Israel, not to Christians. God by his grace chose a small, insignificant nation to know his presence, see his power, hear his voice, and represent him to the world. But in his grace, God has included us in this story. Peter (1 Peter 2:9) says, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession.” We are now God’s chosen people. Israel’s relationship with God is our relationship (except we understand what Jesus did and have the Holy Spirit, which makes it even more special). God has “set his affection” on us. God has chosen us. God has redeemed us. God will be faithful to us. None of this is deserved. It’s all through God’s grace. Read the Scripture again reveling in God’s grace to you. To cap it off, in his grace, God has given you a leadership role in his work. You haven’t earned it. It’s just another grace gift. So whatever you do, don’t think that somehow you have to make things happen for God. Just join God in the work that he is doing.
Prayer
Lord, I know that you have not chosen me as your child because I am better or more talented than others. But you have loved me from the beginning of time, and in your grace, you have saved me. In addition, you have now asked me to join you in your work by influencing others. May I always be aware that this is your work, not mine. And may I enjoy the wonder of your grace as I lead in your way and in your strength.
Personal Reflection
The Israelites moved away from God’s grace because they began to believe that God owed them blessing through their effort. This is very easy to do in leadership. What practices will keep you enjoying and celebrating God’s grace in the long term?
