Boasting in the Crossনমুনা
What happens when we boast about ourselves?
3. We face danger
There's a subtle danger: seeking glory for ourselves. As servants of God, we must exercise caution. Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ reminds us, that our focus should be on glorifying the Lord, not ourselves. Ministries should never draw attention to individuals.
We should not seek prominence or attention for ourselves. It is crucial that we do not seek recognition or glory for ourselves. A byproduct of boasting in ourselves can lead to envy and strife. Therefore, we should not glory in our own wisdom, power, or influence, but rather, we should boast in the cross of Christ.
4. We act foolishly
We act foolishly when we deny God's existence. Without the foundation of faith and the guiding presence of the Holy Spirit, people operate solely based on self-reliance. They proudly boast about their accomplishments, influence, and power but neglect to acknowledge the true power of the cross of Christ.
Psalm 14:1 The fool says in his heart, “There is no God”. They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good.
Prayer:
Dear God, everything belongs to you. You are the master of all creation, and I owe everything to you. Amen.
